This coffee has a lot of minerality to it. Starting with juicy white grape, with some slight tannins. This moves into a sweet apple, with a lemon zest acidity coming through.
Mama Aya is the woman behind this coffee. Her farm Shaji is based in the south-western region of Tanzania in Mbozi. Communal Shamba is a social enterprise that features coffees from female producers from all over Tanzania in an effort to provide a marketplace for these coffees. They’ve also help fund schools, clean water facilities and even computers. Having paid 80% over the local market prices for cherries, Communal Shamba is paving the way for better coffee and more sustainable trade in Tanzania.

We’re back to East Africa this week with an exciting lot from Tanzania. This coffee is from a woman producer initiative run by Communal Shamba. Mama Aya is the name of the farmer who grew the coffee, having grown predominantly Kent & Bourbon varieties she’s produced a wonderfully complex coffee with lots of minerality. We’re proud to be showcasing her coffee and continue to explore Tanzania as a coffee producing origin.
