Wilmer Betancourt is one of the coffee producers in our El Yalcon program. Each lot of coffee that each producer delivers to the mil is assessed for quality, in appearance, size and of course taste. They have to be good to make it into our El Yalcon blend, but sometimes the lots are truly exceptional. This small lot was one of those, so we’ve kept it separate as a unique expression of Wilmer’s work.


Wilmer owns El Pital farm, which at just 1 hectare is very small. He has 4,000 coffee trees – a mix of Caturra (great for flavour) and Colombia (a bit more disease resistant). He’s worked hard on how the coffee is looked after following picking and this has been a big factor in helping him get consistently good results.
