Centroamericano H1 Coffee Beans
Centroamericano H1 is a Sarchimor hybrid developed in El Salvador by PROCAFÉ, the country's coffee research foundation. Sarchimors are a family of varietals bred by crossing Timor Hybrid — a naturally occurring cross of Arabica and Robusta discovered in Timor in the early 20th century — with Villa Sarchi, a compact Bourbon mutation from Costa Rica. The Robusta lineage in Timor Hybrid carries strong resistance to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease, which is the primary reason these crosses were developed: to produce plants that can withstand disease pressure without sacrificing cup quality. Centroamericano H1 was selected specifically for its cup performance within that group. At high altitude in El Salvador, it produces a distinctive profile: warm spice notes, dried fruit, milk chocolate, and good body. It sits closer to the character of traditional Arabica varietals than many disease-resistant hybrids, which often trade cup quality for resilience. Washed processing at medium-dark roast tends to bring out its characteristic spice and chocolate notes clearly. Read more: Our Centroamericano H1 varietal guide · Browse all varietal guides
