Finca Carmela is a three hectare farm that's planted mostly with Villa Sarchi variety coffee trees, as well as some smaller plantings of rarer varietals like Kenia. Situated around 1,600 metres above sea level in the famous Costa Rican coffee growing region of Alajuela, this farm is 1 of 2 owned and operated by Allan Oviedo and his family, whom we've been buying coffee from since 2017.
Allan also owns and operates the Don Joel micromill, which is named after his late father, Joel. It processes coffee from both of Allan's farms, as well as some of his neighbours from the San Luis de Grecia area.
Starting with sweet orange and a shoulder of cherry, the coffee slips into raspberry on the finish and tangerine on the aftertaste. A delicate edge of caramel comes through as it cools, adding layers to this sweetly fruity cup.
