El Salvador: Finca Argentina, Obata

Finca Argentina
-
Obata is the Brazilian cousin (or more like uncle-once-removed) of the Centroamericano H1 we also love from Finca Argentina. They're both Sarchimors - varietals whose lineage includes a Villa Sarchi crossed with Timor Hybrid (a natural Arabica x Robusta hybrid discovered in Timor).
Whilst Centroamericano is the second generation from the Timor Hybrid (so on of it's great grandparents is Robusta), Obata is from the first generation (one of its grandparents is Robusta). Like Centroamericano's parent T5296, Obata is a cross between the Timor Hybrid and Villa Sarchi. However, in the case of Obata, the selection process happened in Brazil at the Instituto Agronomico (IAC) of Sao Paulo State in Campinas, Brazil.
It was released in Brazil in 2000, where we've seen it appearing moderately often among newer plantings on farms. In 2014, it was brought to Costa Rica and we've been buying it from Finca Argentina since we got our hands on the first ever crop of it from El Salvador!
This full bodied coffee delivers dark chocolate and Brazil nuts. As it cools a little biscuity edge sneaks into this amazingly quaffable cuppa.
