Fazenda Cachoeira da Grama has been owned by the Carvalho Dias family since 1890, and while we haven't been buying coffee from them for quite that long, we're incredibly proud to have been working with Cachoeira for over 20 years! In 2016, Bourbon Specialty Coffees joined the family in managing the farm, which now serves as their main processing centre and research site for coffee variety, picking, processing, and drying.

Located in the Sul de Minas mesoregion, just 3 miles north of the Minas Gerais border, the farm borders Alta Mogiana in São Paulo to the south. The mountainous terrain, ranging from 1,100 to 1,300 meters above sea level, requires all farm work to be done by hand due to the steep topography.

The Vale da Grama region, a coffee production hub since the 19th century, has long embraced specialty coffee innovations. High quality and quantity coexist here, driven by a commitment to technology and science. The farm primarily grows Yellow and Red Bourbon, with Natural and Pulped Natural as the main processing methods.

Coffee from Fazenda Cachoeira da Grama is crafted with meticulous care, from seedling selection to plantation, harvest, and processing. Lindolpho de Carvalho Dias has been a finalist at Brazil’s Cup of Excellence multiple times, and Gabriel de Carvalho Dias, a leading agronomist, consistently produces excellent coffee. The family owns several neighboring farms.

Spanning 417 hectares, with 64 hectares dedicated to coffee, the farm prioritizes environmental sustainability. They plant native species alongside coffee crops for ecological balance. The farm features a school, club, football field, and 47 houses with modern amenities. The family invests in coffee processing facilities, treats wastewater to prevent pollution, and operates a small hydroelectric plant during peak harvest. They primarily grow Yellow Bourbon, Canario, and Mundo Novo varietals, while experimenting with new techniques and varieties.

Our first visit to the farm and cupping this Brazilian coffee opened our minds to the potential of great coffee. The Carvalho Dias family's dedication to land preservation and community support has enabled them to produce one of the most consistent and delicious coffees, holding a special place in our hearts.
