Kiriga Estate
-
Grown in the lush highlands of Murang’a County, this family-run estate was founded in 1954 and has been lovingly nurtured by the Gakunga family since 1976. Today, it’s led by Dr. Brian Gakunga, a passionate advocate for sustainable coffee farming in Kenya and across Africa.
At Kiriga, quality starts with the trees. The estate grows a mix of top-tier Arabica varieties, SL28, Ruiru 11, K7, and Batian, each chosen for its unique flavour and resilience. Expect bright, fruity notes, a full body, and that signature Kenyan acidity. Over 60% of the beans are AA/AB grade, a true mark of excellence.
From seedling to harvest, everything happens right on the farm. Kiriga handles all its coffee processing in-house and also embraces diversity with dairy cows, shoats (that’s sheep and goats!), and even the occasional hippo visitor. It’s a place where tradition, care, and great coffee come together in every cup.
Juicy blackcurrants and rhubarb start this coffee with a zing. A gentle sweet cream and full, smooth body balances it and it ends with a little twist of orange.
