Rasuna Coffee Beans
Rasuna is a hybrid developed in Sumatra to solve a specific farming problem. Catimor — widely planted across Aceh for its yields and disease resistance — has a short productive life of around a decade before output drops sharply. Typica lasts far longer but yields poorly in Sumatran conditions. Rasuna crosses the two: Catimor provides yield and disease resistance, Typica provides longevity and cup quality. It's concentrated in the Gayo Highlands around Takengon and the Sidikalang area of Dairi Regency, and performs best between 1,100 and 1,500 metres. Cup character depends heavily on processing. Wet-hulled in the traditional giling basah style, Rasuna is full-bodied, earthy, and rounded - classic Sumatra. Under honey or natural processing, it shows a noticeably brighter side: stone fruit, sweetness, and a cleaner finish. The Wahana Estate in Sidikalang has been particularly associated with Rasuna as a named single varietal, producing lots that demonstrate what the variety can do with careful processing and altitude.
