The AeroPress was invented in 2005 by Alan Adler, a Stanford University engineering lecturer and lifelong inventor known for his precision-driven designs. Frustrated by the bitterness and inconsistency of traditional coffee makers, Adler set out to create a better way to brew a single cup of coffee.
He began experimenting in his garage in 2004, studying how variables like water temperature, brew time, and pressure affect flavour. After more than 30 prototypes, Adler unveiled the AeroPress at CoffeeFest Seattle in 2005.
The result was a revolutionary coffee maker that used air pressure to extract rich, smooth coffee with low acidity and no sediment. Its unique design quickly gained a cult following among coffee enthusiasts, baristas, and travellers alike.
Over the years, the AeroPress has evolved into a global phenomenon, inspiring innovations like the AeroPress Go, AeroPress Clear, and now the AeroPress XL. It even sparked the creation of the World AeroPress Championship, a global competition celebrating creativity in coffee brewing.
